PANERAI’S ICONIC SAILBOAT EILEAN VISITS MALLORCA

Sail aboard Panerai's renowned sailboat and admire the latest watches

Panerai’s renowned sailboat Eilean will dock in Mallorca to the delight of sea lovers, to pay homage to traditional naval handcrafting
Climbing aboard an iconic sailboat like the Eilean is a pleasure only within the reach of a few: like the lucky participants who attended the Relojería Alemana and Panerai event in Puerto Portals, Mallorca. It is not every day that such a vessel as the Panerai sailing yacht visits the island. This example of naval excellence displayed all its splendour, to the enjoyment of all the attendees as they embarked on a very special voyage towards the high seas. The Italian firm's flagship delighted the sea lovers who, in addition to discovering the latest Panerai watches, were able to see for themselves that sailing in an old ship is a different story.

Unforgettable voyage aboard the Eilean

Puerto Portals, in Calvià, was the chosen location for this exclusive event aboard a classic sailboat, a true seafaring gem. The Eilean arrived at the main dock, where it waited until the attendees climbed aboard to enjoy a morning of sailing on the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The weather was perfect for such a trip, which made this event unforgettable.
To complete this sensorial experience, the participants enjoyed a refreshing swim and a snack while they were out on the sea. Once they were back on land, they finished with an exquisite lunch in the Flanigan restaurant.
As well as admiring Panerai’s antique sailing boat, those attending had the chance to see the latest watches created by the brand first-hand, pieces that are already available in Relojería Alemana shops.

After casting off, turning the engine off and watching the crew hoist the mainsail, it was time to discover the history of the Eilean, the iconic Panerai vessel.

The Eilean, an iconic sailing boat flying the Panerai flag

The ship was launched in 1936 by commission of the Fulton brothers, James and Robert. The vessel is 22 metres long, and it was abandoned in Antigua, in the Caribbean. Years later, in 2006, Panerai rescued the iconic sailing boat and gave it a second life. The Eilean hoisted its sails once more.
The Eilean, launched in 1936, has a second life thanks to its restoration
The Eilean was designed by William Fife, part of the third generation of a Scottish family that designed and built yachts. Since 2009 –the year when its restoration was completed– the vessel participates in different races such as the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, an international circuit of regattas for classic and antique vessels sponsored by the Italian brand.
Exclusive edition of Panerai navigation tools
The Italian maison celebrates the return of the Eilean to the sea with an exclusive edition of navigation tools including: barometer, hygrometer, thermometer, and wall clock, all of them made of stainless steel, and personalised with the Eilean logo.
The traditional naval craftsmanship tradition is present in every detail
The Eilean is viewed as an ambassador for traditional naval carpentry, keeping alive the meticulous art of restoring old vessels. The savoir fair displayed in its reconstruction elicits great respect for the artisanship involved, which faithfully preserved the shapes, features and materials originally used to build these beautiful ships.
A team of master naval carpenters and artisans from the Francesco Del Carlo shipyard in Tuscany worked their magic and brought back this sailing boat’s former splendour. After three years under the efforts of their expert hands, this naval gem came back to life.

Panerai, excellence in watchmaking and in its latest items

There can be no better location to show the latest pieces created by Panerai than the Eilean. The Italian band stays on its course, like a good sailor, and incorporates the newest designs onto its most renowned collections.

Those in attendance aboard the sailing yacht could see the latest of the Luminor, collection, the essence of the watchmaking brand, which focuses on the Marina, Luna Rossa, Logo and Chrono lines. They were also able to see timepieces from the Luminor Yachts Challenge: a range of regatta watches with designs and features that nod back to the world of classic sailing ships.
The Radiomir and Mare Nostrum pieces were also a part of this unique voyage. These Panerai collections only improve the brand’s style, sophistication and passion for measuring the passing of time.
