Novelties Watches and Wonders 2021: new Patek Philippe Calatrava watch in rose gold
With the beginning of April comes Watches and Wonders Geneva 2021, one of the biggest events in the world of fine watchmaking, where the best brands of the Richemont Group, as well as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Tudor and some brands of the LVMH group present their novelties, this year in a fully digital format.
In Relojería Alemana, official retailer of the main watchmaking brands, we analyze the latest creations of the different brands, where this edition they have given special attention to the use of sustainable materials, the return to the classics and innovation in terms of materials, dials and shapes.

Patek Philippe creates four new versions of the Nautilus and the new Calatrava “Clous de Paris”

Launched in 1932, the iconic design of the Calatrava reflects the minimalist Bauhaus principle (function determines the form of an object). Since then, it has been repeatedly reinterpreted in numerous versions, including the legendary Ref. 3919, which was produced for more than 20 years.
The new Calatrava 6119 (in rose and white gold) distinguishes itself mainly with a slightly larger diameter, reworked strap lugs and a dial with applied hour markers inspired from the first Calatrava (Ref. 96) from 1932. The Calatrava for ladies, with a lacquered guilloché dial, has a slightly larger diameter (35 mm) and an automatic movement that replaces the previous manual caliber.
For the first time, Patek Philippe offers the Annual Calendar in a round Calatrava-type case in polished steel with a diameter of 38 mm, which fits all wrists. This watch is equipped with a new integrated bracelet with five rows of links, fully polished.
As for Grand Complications, Patek Philippe adds to its wide range of calendar watches the In-line Perpetual Calendar, a new perpetual calendar with an unprecedented aligned indication. The day, date and month are displayed in a large single window at 12 o'clock.
Following the announcement that 2021 will be the last year of production of the stainless steel Nautilus model with reference 5711/1A, this cult model is presented with an olive green dial, a shade that has never before existed in the collection. This new shade replaces the Ref. 5711/1A-010 with a blue-black dial.
In addition, the Geneva firm surprises with a new and unique version in steel and baguette diamonds, where each diamond has a special slightly trapezoidal shape, instead of the classic rectangle, and is cut to perfectly fit the octagonal bezel with rounded corners.
The new Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph combines three useful and convenient complications: a flyback chronograph, a Travel Time function (two time zones) and an analog date at 12 o'clock synchronized with local time.
Its proposal of jewelry watch is the new model in rose gold with pavé of brilliant-cut Top Wesselton brilliant-cut diamonds on the case, the bezel and the bracelet. This new haute joaillerie model in rose gold is created with the very rare snow-setting technique, which consists in setting diamonds of different sizes with the objective of minimizing the exposure of precious metal between the individual stones.

The Maison Cartier innovates on three of its most emblematic models

Through an interactive interface developed specifically for the 2021 edition of Watches and Wonders, we were able to discover up close the requirements and design culture of Cartier.
Among the many watchmaking innovations of the brand, those of its three iconic models stand out: the Tank Must, inspired by the Tank Louis Cartier watch, innovates with the integration of a photovoltaic movement. The Pasha de Cartier evolves with a 30 mm model and a chronograph version. The Cloche de Cartier, a singular model with a unique shape created in 1920, arrives in the Cartier Privé collection, a collection dedicated to connoisseurs that explores the mythical aesthetics of the Maison through limited edition watches.

Tudor commemorates the 50th anniversary of its first chronograph and stands out for the innovation of its Black Bay Fifty-Eight models

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of its chronographs, Tudor is relaunching the Black Bay Chrono model in steel with a reinterpreted case and two dials with contrasting subcounters, in the purest style of sports chronographs.
In addition, the manufacture dares with two new and particular versions of its Black Bay Fifty-Eight. The Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K is a new and daring version of its popular model in 18K yellow gold with an open back. This is the first time these two features have been added to a Tudor diver's watch. The other version is the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 925, in 925 silver and with an open back; two novelties that generate surprising incandescence.

Reaffirming its commitment to the environment, Panerai launches the most sustainable proposals to date

Under the claim "the future is in our hands", the Italian firm launches new designs with which it intends to lay the foundations of a more sustainable culture within the watch industry.
98.6% of the new Submersible eLAB-ID™ comes from materials that integrate a high rate of recycled elements. Its case, sandwich dial and bridges are made of EcoTitanium™, a recycled titanium alloy that is a lightweight aerospace-grade metal with more than 80% purely recycled content. Submersible eLAB-ID™ is the first watch to use 100% SuperLuminova™ for the dial and hands, and 100% recycled silicon for its movement escapement.
Keeping with its greener line, the case and dial of the Luminor Marina eSteel boast a new recycled steel alloy. Developed in collaboration with a group of partners of the brand, it reduces the need to extract virgin materials and reduces our environmental impact. It is durable, water-resistant and available in three dial colors: Blu Profondo, Grigio Roccia and Verde Smeraldo.
The new Luminor Chrono Monopulsante GMT Blu Notte is a limited edition that marks the brand's return to chronographs. It is a monopusher chronograph with column wheel that combines start, stop and reset functions on a single pusher, while the GMT function allows to read local and home time simultaneously.
Covered with Panerai's emblematic bronze, the Submersible Bronzo Blu Abisso has been developed to withstand the intense pressure of underwater diving. This reference combines innovation and tradition, and is the first of its kind with date function and a three-day power reserve.

New Pilot’s Watches collection by IWC Schaffhausen

For 85 years, IWC has been engineering Pilot’s Watches tailored to meet the functional requirements and specific needs of professional pilots. Initially conceived as precise and reliable tools for navigation, they are celebrated nowadays for their iconic cockpit instrument design, their extreme robustness and high versatility.
Now, IWC is adding a new chapter to this success story: The Big Pilot’s Watch 43 (Ref. IW3293). An authentic interpretation of the iconic design, without either a date window or a power reserve display, it features a 43-millimetre stainless steel case for enhanced ergonomics and wear ability.
The Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL (Ref. IW357201) is the first IWC watch to feature the patented SPRIN-g PROTECT system. At the heart of this system is a cantilever spring that protects the movement against the g-forces generated by impacts. It cushions the movement, allowing it to keep moving independently of the case before bringing it to a stop more gently.
In addition IWC is launching: the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 in a new case diameter of 41mm, two “Mojave Desert” Big Pilot’s Watches in sand coloured ceramic, and a new Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar.
