New items in the timepiece collection Speedmaster Moonwatch by Omega
It seemed impossible, but Swiss watchmaking has done it again: the Speedmaster Moonwatch collection by Omega has been updated. Big time. The main touches added to the latest edition of the watch are unique features that highlight its famed design. This, alongside its Master Chronometer certification, makes this timepiece’s movement excellent. The legendary chronograph thus continues to live up to its outstanding reputation, which began when NASA chose it for the crew to wear during the Apollo missions.
At Relojería Alemana we proudly stock the most renowned watchmaking brands and we are delighted to offer you the new items Omega presents in the new Speedmaster collection. Check how the Moonwatch renews itself to continue taking us to the moon.

Speedmaster Moonwatch, all the rage on the moon

The seemingly unattainable challenge of maintaining all the fame amassed since 1969 might have been difficult for Moonwatch, but not impossible. This beloved design by Omega is the only piece that witnessed all the space missions launched by NASA.
In 1969, when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface, they were wearing a Speedmaster Professional, a chronograph that became the first watch to land on the moon. Never before had there been such a giant leap for Swiss watchmaking; the Apollo 11 mission took Moonwatch to beyond our atmosphere and, since then, it has enjoyed a place in the history of space exploration.

Moonwatch, a certified Master Chronometer timepiece

This Omega model comes with a sense of adventure that has been present throughout its evolution. It remains even now, as it adds a new updated feature that is yet another step towards watchmaking excellence.
The Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 3861, the new movement in the Moonwatch model, ensures the timepiece will not be affected by even the strongest magnetic fields, measuring up to 15,000 gauss. This extraordinary improvement-turned-hallmark is the reason why it obtained the Master Chronometer certification, the highest standard in Swiss watchmaking in terms of precision, performance and magnetic resistance.
However, its quality and success go a step further. After four years of hard work, Omega has been capable of creating a movement worthy of this prestigious certification while matching the size of the previous Moonwatch calibre, the 1861. The new calibre has improved the power reserve —which reaches 50 hours—, the chronometric performance, and of course, its very capacity to withstand magnetism.

New features in Omega’s legendary chronograph

It seems like the years have not gone by. The new Moonwatch collection maintains a timeless design, true to the style of the classic fourth-generation timepieces the astronauts used in the moon landing. The most recent version has a 42mm asymmetric case in noble steel, step dial and double-bezel case back.
The legacy of the first watches is kept in the iconic Speedmaster Moonwatch Master Chronometer collection; the four steel models that comprise it are available with hesalite or sapphire crystal on both dials. Choose the final look by combining the case with straps made of nylon or leather, or alternatively a steel bracelet..

Features of the Moonwatch timepieces that make it unique

Initially, the Speedmaster was presented as a tool for sport, and it was the first wristwatch with a chronograph in the world that had the tachymeter scale on the bezel rather than printed on the dial. The reason behind this was to make the job easier for racing car drivers.
One of the finishes that delighted collectors and watchmaking enthusiasts is the contrast in the design, achieved thanks to the perfect combination of a black dial and white hands; the resulting legibility is excellent.
Another feature that won over many fans was the simplicity of its lines, alongside its trademark contemporary style. Because of its balanced features and the elegance of its shapes, the Moonwatch attracts everyone’s attention.
However, if we want to talk about details that make the Moonwatch truly unique, we should mention its exclusive versions in 18-carat gold. Whether the intense red colour of the 18-carat Sedna™ gold, or the lustrous white of the 18-carat Canopus™ gold. This timepiece is the ultimate expression of fine jewellery, combining tradition, innovation and good taste.
