Cartier, Panerai or Pomellato, brands that opt for sustainability

Sustainable watches: TimberTex strap by IWC Schaffhausen
Sustainability is no longer just a trend; it is the way towards balance and wellbeing. It has also reached the jewellery and watchmaking industries with ideas that bring together eco-conscious designs, innovative materials and the ethical principles present throughout the entire production chain. Discover our brand selection of sustainable jewellery and watches. The ecological choice made by these brands can be seen in their commitment to fair trade and the environment, without leaving behind the high quality, the beauty and the exclusiveness that have always walked alongside them.

Cartier’s Tank Must SolarBeat watches; aesthetics and sustainability

Cartier reinvents one of its signature pieces, the Tank watch –a clear example of the brand’s elegance– and presents the new Tank Must SolarBeat, a watchmaking technical marvel that includes photovoltaic movement without altering its original appearance.
The Tank Must SolarBeat has perforated Roman numerals, so that these slots allow the light to reach the photovoltaic cells hidden beneath the dial, which have an approximate lifespan of 16 years. Furthermore, they added a strap manufactured without materials sourced from animals, but that still complies with the Maison’s usual comfort and high-quality standards.

Submersible eLab ID, Panerai’s ecological watch

Ecological watchmaking is a fact, and this timepiece is the perfect example: the Submersible eLAB-ID by Panerai. This model brings together the creative spirit of the brand and its lab’s research. After experimenting carefully, Panerai has incorporated one of the top principles of environmentalism, reusing waste, into the design of its watches, turning the discarded elements into raw materials for its exclusive timepieces.
The Submersible eLAB-ID represents an unprecedented achievement: 98.6% of its weight comes from recycled materials, and it is the first watch that uses SuperLuminova™ 100 % for its dial and hands, as well as 100% recycled silicon for its movement’s escapement.

TimberTex paper-based straps for IWC watches

IWC also opts for innovation and responsible watchmaking. It does so with their latest TimberTex straps manufactured using paper whose cellulose came from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
This groundbreaking creation reflects IWC Schaffhausen’s current commitment to sustainability. Thus, this Swiss manufacture broadens the alternatives to leather straps, among which they already have steel bracelets, rubber or fabric straps.
TimberTex straps are an elegant and high-quality option for those who do not want animal leather. Each TimberTex piece is different, although they are all soft and with irregular grain; the perfect match for the Portugieser and Portofino timepieces.

Baume Ocean, a watch synonymous with eco-responsibility

The path of the brand Baume & Mercier also turns towards sustainability, and it does so with their Baume Ocean Edition Limitée, a 42mm automatic watch manufactured with recycled plastic.
The defining aspects of the Baume Ocean are its coating, made of 80% plastic waste, and its strap, made solely of this material. Moreover, the hexagonal packaging is made of recyclable cardboard.
This fine watchmaking piece is one of the flagships of Baume & Mercier’s will to incorporate an eco-responsible philosophy into their creations. The watchmaking industry is already playing an active role in this circular economy, and it does so with its usual savoir faire.

Nudo Gelé jewellery pieces by Pomellato; colour and eco-conscience

The Italian brand Pomellato has been working on a more responsible future for a while. Proof of that is an increase in gold purchases from fair mining, as well as their investment in diamond and precious stone traceability.
They used an innovative technique for their Nudo Gelé collection, obtaining three new precious stone tones with a frosted effect, which go beyond nature’s own colour palette.
The rings, earrings and pendants in the Nudo Gelé collection, as well as being beautiful and evocative, are sustainable jewellery pieces. Expert goldsmiths are working to find the harmony between colour and eco-responsibility with a made-in-Milan stamp.

DoDo and Tēnaka, a jewellery project to recover the oceans

DoDo’s chic jewellery pieces and charms are inspired by nature and diversity. DoDo was born from an ecological mission, and it was one of the first to use fair mining gold to all its creations. This brand shows its commitment every step of the way.
Just like their new Blue Forest project, an initiative in collaboration with the Tēnaka organisation. Together, they will plant mangroves in the Malayan coastal area to help the ocean recover through this gem project to preserve marine life. The new symbol of this environmental effort is the Granelli DoDo for Tēnaka bracelet, made with plastic collected from the Mediterranean and then painted green to evoke the beauty of the mangroves.
The charge towards sustainability has become unstoppable, and the jewellery and watchmaking industries are a part of it. Our Relojería Alemana shops in Mallorca receive more and more proposals for sustainable jewellery pieces and watches from our signature brands. Designs with an eco-conscience that are as exclusive as always.
